Passing and Receiving

                                                                         Passing the Ball

Passing and receiving are the least appreciated skills in the game of basketball. It is surprising that most talented and highly skilled players do not possess the most basic passing skill. Learning proper passing and receiving technique requires considerably less time and practice than dribbling and shooting. However, once the skills are learned incorrectly, they become habits that are difficult to correct.

Briefly defined, it is the art of giving the ball to a teammate at the proper time and at the proper place. It is the quickest and most effective way to forward the ball from player to player. It is also a means of forwarding a ball from one place to another. As the saying goes, ''a good basket always comes from a good pass.''

Receiving the Ball

In this chapter, you will learn and practicing the basic passing skills. After perfecting these, you will be able to develop variations of these skills  based on your size, strength, quickness, deceptiveness, judgement and knowledge of and experience in playing the game. however, the rudiments of the chest, bounce overhead and baseball passes must be mastered first. Proper passing form and habits will allow you to develop passes that are efficient, deceptive (not ''telegraphed''), varied and accurate.
